  • Edie Hand delivered an inspiring keynote at the West Alabama Women’s Leadership Alliance event hosted by the Chamber earlier this month at Hotel Capstone. Her message of empowerment and healing resonated with many local women & sparked a renewed sense of community strength.  Tuscaloosa Thread
  • The West Alabama Christmas Parade lit up downtown Tuscaloosa on Dec. 8 with vibrant floats and marching bands, drawing a cheerful crowd along Greensboro Ave and University Blvd.  The Tuscaloosa News
  • Christ Episcopal Church in Tuscaloosa hosts the Lazarus Toy Sale where all toys are priced at $5 or less. Families can find affordable, donated toys for the holiday while the sale helps support the church's Lazarus Ministry (assisting with utility bills).  WBRC

HEALTH NEWS

  • Though National Influenza Awareness Week ended, Whatley Health Services warns that flu cases—especially among children—could rise with the upcoming holidays. The facility will offer evening clinic hours soon and urges residents to protect themselves with vaccination, hand washing, and avoiding those who are ill.  WBRC

SPORTS NEWS

  • After the season ended, On3 Sports named Michael Carroll and Dijon Lee as Freshmen All-Americans following their strong performances for Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Carroll started in key games while Lee played in all matches during his first season with the team.  Tide 100.9
  • Alabama basketball stays at No. 12 after wins over Clemson and UTSA, and will face Arizona in the C.M. Newton Classic on Saturday, Dec. 13 (the team is one of six SEC squads ranked in the Coaches Poll).  The Tuscaloosa News
  • Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer said Jam Miller is nearly ready for the College Football Playoff ahead of the December 19 game against Oklahoma, and evaluations are ongoing for other injured players.  WBRC
