EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Alabama reported record achievements today as its Beat Auburn Beat Hunger food drive collected 630,624 pounds of food for West Alabama Food Bank and its economic impact reached $3.4 billion on the state and $2.354 billion on the Tuscaloosa metro area — it also named the LEAD Program in honor of a late alumnus and selected its Million Dollar Band to perform at the 100th Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade in 2026.  The University of Alabama

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

FINANCE NEWS

  • A recent LendingTree study finds that drivers in Alabama who speed 11 to 15 mph over the limit face an average annual insurance increase of about $524. Fines differ by county and the added points on a license may lead to a suspension — showing that one speeding ticket can have long-lasting financial impacts.  The Tuscaloosa News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Auburn’s mayor and Tuscaloosa’s mayor have renewed a friendly wager to support local charities ahead of the Iron Bowl on Nov. 29th at Jordan-Hare Stadium—if the Tigers win, Tuscaloosa’s mayor will donate $100 to the Exceptional Foundation of East Alabama and if the Tide win, Auburn’s mayor will donate $100 to the Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative. The bet, which began in 2005, continues a long-standing tradition that ties local sports to community support.  WBRC
  • Alabama law does not ban warming up a car but requires drivers to stay by their vehicles—turning off the engine, removing the key, and locking the car—to avoid legal risks, and Birmingham police have already issued citations for unattended idling that makes cars targets for theft. This rule aims to prevent theft and accidents as colder mornings drive more people to warm up their vehicles.  The Tuscaloosa News

  • Alabama football is preparing for the 90th Iron Bowl as offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb said winning is everything and head coach Kalen DeBoer said the tough schedule readies the team for road challenges. The game starts at 6:30 p.m. Saturday November 29th at Jordan-Hare Stadium—new opponents will test their skills.  The Tuscaloosa News
  • Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack told reporters Monday he would not discuss job openings—like the Arkansas head coaching vacancy—and said he is focused on the team’s strong defense in Tuscaloosa.  Tuscaloosa Thread
