  • Several Tuscaloosa restaurants will serve special meals on Thanksgiving Day. Chuck’s Fish downtown will offer a free feast beginning at 11 a.m.—other venues include a potluck at Druid City Brewing Company and a buffet at Sitar of India.  The Tuscaloosa News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Alabama College of Community Health Sciences has trained rural health care professionals for 30 years through the Rural Medical Scholars Program—now expanded with a Dental Scholars Program and high school outreach. Dr. Drake Lavender said the program has produced 56 practicing physicians and reached over 1,000 participants—helping rural communities get the care they need.  The University of Alabama

  • The Old Farmer’s Almanac predicts a bright, mild Thanksgiving with warm temperatures and plenty of sunshine on Nov. 27—AccuWeather forecasts partly sunny skies with a 55% chance of a passing shower, breezy winds and low humidity. Families planning outdoor gatherings should be ready to adjust their plans if the weather changes.  The Tuscaloosa News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Alabama law prohibits burning leaves in yards except when used for cooking or a contained fire pit. Homeowners must check local fire guidelines — violations can lead to fines up to $3,000 or jail time.  The Tuscaloosa News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Alabama will host Eastern Illinois on November 22 at Bryant-Denny Stadium with kickoff at 1 p.m., and the forecast shows partly sunny skies with a slight chance of showers and temperatures in the low to mid-70s—meteorologist James Spann warned that changing patterns might affect conditions before the game.  Tuscaloosa Thread
  • Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson has seen his Heisman Trophy odds slip after poor showings against South Carolina, LSU and a loss to Oklahoma—currently, his odds stand at +15,000 while he leads the SEC in completions and touchdowns.   • After 10 games of trying different players on the offensive line, Alabama football coaches plan to settle on a five-man unit—this decision comes as they seek better teamwork for upcoming games at Eastern Illinois and Auburn—.  The Tuscaloosa News
  • The SGA and Alabama Athletics donated unused upper level student tickets to veterans and service members through VetTix for the Eastern Illinois football game — students will receive lower level seats to improve their view.  The Crimson White
  • Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer said center Parker Brailsford’s playing status is uncertain for the game against Eastern Illinois on November 22—he was seen wearing a boot on his right foot after the loss to Oklahoma. DeBoer noted that backup center Joseph Ionata has worked hard in practice—preparing for his chance if Brailsford does not play.  The Tuscaloosa News
  • Alabama defeated Illinois 90-86 in a neutral-site game at the United Center, with sophomore guard Labaron Philon scoring 24-point to lead the Crimson Tide to a narrow win. The Tide improved to a 4-1 record after coming from behind and holding off a late surge by Illinois.  Tide 100.9
  • Alabama dropped to No. 10 in the College Football Playoff Rankings after a two-point loss to Oklahoma, with Selection Committee Chair Hunter Yurachek saying the team's run game—battling low rushing numbers in games against Florida State, South Carolina, and LSU—was a key factor. The Tide now has two games left, hosting Eastern Illinois at 1 p.m. before traveling to Auburn for the Iron Bowl on Nov. 29 at 6:30 p.m.  WBRC
