  • Tuscaloosa’s One Place Tinsel Trail will kick off the holiday season on Monday, November 24 at Government Plaza with over 200 decorated trees and a tree lighting at 5:30 p.m.—the event will also include free photos with Santa and festive performances for all ages.  Tuscaloosa Thread

  • Anchor Tuscaloosa has opened its application process for on-air positions today—local journalists are invited to apply using the posted instructions—and the station will review submissions for upcoming vacancies.  WBRC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Alabama set record high economic impacts for the 2023-2024 school year and named its leadership program in honor of late alumnus Jim Kelly — a change that gives students new opportunities. UA also approved a new School of Leadership and Policy to open in fall, honored two faculty with NSF CAREER Awards, and will host a Demo Day on Nov. 20 — letting local startups show their ideas.  The University of Alabama
  • Anchor Tuscaloosa is accepting applications for its 2026 class and gives college students from Stillman College, the University of Alabama and Shelton State Community College free, semester-long networking with local leaders to learn about staying in Tuscaloosa. Applicants must have 30 academic credit hours by Dec. 31 and apply by Friday, Nov. 21 — the program is supported by local and state partners.  WBRC

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Tuscaloosa Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will host the 'Red Wears Pink' breast cancer awareness walk on November 29 from 8 a.m. to Noon at the Minnie Sellers Shelter (2101 Bowers Park Drive) to promote early detection and improve access to care.  Tuscaloosa Thread

SPORTS NEWS

  • Alabama football will honor 27 seniors during its Senior Day ceremony—featuring key players such as Germie Bernard, LT Overton, Tim Keenan III, Deontae Lawson, and Justin Jefferson—and the team will hold its final home game—set to begin at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday, November 22—against Eastern Illinois.  The Tuscaloosa News
  • Alabama football lost 23-21 to Oklahoma on Nov. 15 after three turnovers, with errors from quarterback Ty Simpson costing key points. Offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb said the team will work to reduce mistakes ahead of the Iron Bowl on Nov. 29 (their next key game).  The Tuscaloosa News
  • Alabama wide receiver Germie Bernard was named a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award on Monday—he leads the team with 48 receptions, 676 yards and six touchdowns, and he will boost his stats in a game against Eastern Illinois scheduled for Saturday, November 22 at 1:00 p.m.  Tuscaloosa Thread
  • Alabama will face Auburn in the Iron Bowl at 6:30 p.m. on ABC at Jordan-Hare Stadium — the Crimson Tide need a win to keep their hopes alive for the SEC Championship and College Football Playoffs. Alabama won the last two games at this venue while Auburn, with four wins so far, aims for a sixth win to become bowl eligible.  Tuscaloosa Thread
  • Alabama did not play DaShawn Jones against Oklahoma because an injury the week before limited his practice—his spot went to Red Morgan, who appeared in 41 snaps and made four tackles, a tackle-for-loss, and a forced fumble.  The Tuscaloosa News
