  • Brother J kicked off his 60th annual Thanksgiving food drive yesterday at Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa’s offices—donations in large red barrels will be gathered until just before Thanksgiving to aid the West Alabama Food Bank amid growing hunger needs.  Tuscaloosa Thread
  • Pet photos with Santa will be offered at Pet Supplies Plus on McFarland Boulevard on Tuesday, December 2 from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 4 from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 6 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. for $20 per session; each sitting provides a 4x6 print, pets must be on a leash or in a carrier, and proceeds benefit the Humane Society of West Alabama with portraits taken by professional photographer Keith Davis.  Tuscaloosa Thread

  • Bama Against Bullying held its tenth annual fashion show at Tuscaloosa River Market on November 9 to raise awareness against bullying—models showcased clothing from local shops while Crimsonettes energized the crowd.   • The Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra invites West Alabama to the Aurora concert at Moody Concert Hall, where Maestro Adam Flatt will lead the performance. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bob Hines, a UA Online alumnus and NASA astronaut who spent 170 days in space, will serve as grand marshal for homecoming on Saturday, Nov. 15th in downtown Tuscaloosa ahead of the Crimson Tide football game – he also served as a longtime Air Force lieutenant colonel.  Tide 100.9
  • UA’s current Quality Enhancement Plan introduces a peer-led supplemental instruction program to help students pass bottleneck courses. The plan will run for five years—aiming to boost retention and overall academic success.  The University of Alabama

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today on Veterans Day, a VitAL Alabama study found that rural veterans serve as teachers, first responders, and mentors while facing long travel distances and limited local health care access. Dr. David L. Albright, recently named Chair of the Veterans’ Rural Health Advisory Committee, said that expanding local clinics, mobile care units, and telehealth services is essential (local changes may help enhance community support).  The University of Alabama

SPORTS NEWS

  • Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson recalled a spooky loss (24-3) to Oklahoma and said he will refocus as the Tide hosts the Sooners in Tuscaloosa this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. (He expects the team to avoid a repeat defeat.)  Tide 100.9
  • The 2025 AHSAA Flag Football playoffs will continue with the second round scheduled from November 10th to 13th — home teams will host games at set times, including Tallasee vs Satsuma at 5 p.m. on November 12th and other matchups across both classes.   • Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson recalled last season's loss in Norman—when the Sooners beat the Tide 24-3—as he noted that the team will stay focused in their rematch against Oklahoma.   • Alabama center Parker Brailsford earned SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week honors after his team beat LSU 20-9 Saturday.
