  • DCH Health System teamed with the City of Northport and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama to open Riverside Tiger Park & Fitness Court on 20th Street, which features a modern playground, swings, basketball courts and a paved walking path built on land donated by DCH.  ABC 33/40
  • The Hunter Whitley Butterfly Initiative held its third annual Chasing Freedom celebration to raise veteran suicide awareness—families trick-or-treated at a Halloween night event at The Venue Tuscaloosa and more than 120 runners took part in a 5K on November 1 near Collins-Riverside Intermediate School in Northport. The event honored veteran Hunter Whitley and aimed to spread support for mental health and veteran needs.  The Crimson White

EDUCATION NEWS

  • SGA began filling the vice president for student affairs position after John Michael Chandash resigned last Sunday following a petition alleging he abused his power; applications are open until November 12 at 4 p.m.—the Executive Council will review submissions from November 12–14 and conduct interviews on November 18 and 19 before a nominee is forwarded to the Senate.  The Crimson White

HEALTH NEWS

  • Tuscaloosa local Elizabeth Baldo-Downs started Bags of Hope after surviving breast cancer and has since distributed over 6,000 care bags nationwide since its 2021 founding—each bag contains items like prayer quilts, awareness pins, and beauty products to support women actively battling the disease. Her work continues to help women receive comfort during treatment.  The Crimson White

SPORTS NEWS

  • Alabama women's basketball is set to face 14 non-conference teams this season—UA will pay $296,500 in travel and participation fees including $30,000 each for Stetson and Sam Houston, while other teams receive $10,000 to $25,000. The season opener with Stetson kicks off today at 4:00 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum before SEC play begins in January.  The Tuscaloosa News
  • Alabama basketball hosts North Dakota today at 7 p.m. CT on SEC Network in Tuscaloosa—The Crimson Tide is projected to win 98—75 as guard Latrell Wrightsell Jr. serves a minutes restriction and guard Jalil Bethea remains sidelined with a foot injury.  The Tuscaloosa News
  • After Texas beat Vanderbilt in Austin, the team continued its steady rise in the SEC Power Rankings—while Vanderbilt saw its bubble burst after the loss.  The Tuscaloosa News
  • Hugh Freeze never beat Alabama in the Iron Bowl during his three seasons coaching Auburn and was fired Sunday, Nov. 2 after finishing with a 15 to 19 record overall. Auburn lost twice in the Iron Bowl under Freeze—with a 27 to 24 loss in 2023 and a 28 to 14 result in 2024—and interim head coach D.J.
