GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Federal judges ruled on Friday that the SNAP program must be funded using contingency funds during the shutdown, so debit cards for about 750,000 beneficiaries (using SNAP dollars) may take one to two weeks to reload. State officials and food banks are scrambling to secure food as households remain at risk.  Alabama Public Radio
  • U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell will host a roundtable on food insecurity and SNAP in Tuscaloosa on Nov. 3 at 11 a.m. at the West Alabama Food Bank on 65th Street — local officials and food bank leaders will join the discussion before she teams with volunteers to pack food for families in need.  ABC 33/40

SPORTS NEWS

  • Alabama high school football playoffs are set to begin on November 7 with first round games held at home sites, and Class 7A teams play three rounds before moving to the Super 7 event. The Super 7 will run from December 3 to 5 at Protective Stadium in downtown Birmingham—featuring three games daily that start with two flag football championships.  The Tuscaloosa News
