COMMUNITY NEWS

  • DCH is hosting its fourth annual Trunk-or-Treat event today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the DCH Regional Medical Center laundry parking lot and the Northport Medical Center lot next to the Women's Pavilion to offer a safe and festive Halloween experience for all ages—DCH employees will compete for Best Car Display with their creative car decorations.  ABC 33/40

  • A New York federal judge ruled in favor of Gannett, the publisher of the Tuscaloosa News, and online publishers who alleged Google used its ad tech to cut revenue for news operations—this decision relies on findings from an earlier Justice Department trial.  The Tuscaloosa News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Tuscaloosa County Board of Education announced that superintendent finalist interviews will be held on November 4th and 5th at the TCSS Central Office and will be open to the public — four candidates are scheduled on November 4th and one on November 5th.  ABC 33/40

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Tuscaloosa trick-or-treaters will face a chilly but dry Halloween night as temperatures drop to around 39°F and clear skies let costumes stand out—light jackets or layered costumes are advised for comfort. Over the weekend, Saturday will bring cool temperatures with highs near 68°F and lows around 48°F while Sunday may see afternoon showers.  The Tuscaloosa News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Central Alabama Water Board hired three independent experts—Donald Bruce, David Campbell and Eugene Bentley Sorrell—to review the ongoing Lake Purdy Dam rehabilitation project, which includes a $28 million phase to install roller-compacted concrete. At its October 20 meeting, the board approved extra measures such as a dye test, left-side exploration drilling and a deep foundation on the right side to improve the dam’s strength.  ABC 33/40

  • Alabama football is aiming for a playoff spot over the last four games and will take an idle week before facing LSU on November 8.
