  • Due to bad weather, the Boo! in the Park event was moved indoors to the Mary Ann Phelps Activity Center on Sunday, Oct. 26 from 1–4 p.m. in Tuscaloosa; organizers canceled the Touch-A-Truck and Pet Parade parts but still held Kids’ Costume Contests and allowed vendors to give candy—parking was available in the front field and accessible parking was set aside for food trucks.  ABC 33/40
  • Jimmie Hale Mission is building a new facility that will help the community. The organization said plans are underway and more details will come as the project progresses.  WBRC

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • McKenzie Miller, a 20-year-old UA nursing student known for her kind nature, died in a Northport car crash last week—friends and family gathered Sunday at Moody High School bleachers to honor her memory.  ABC 33/40

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Three UA doctoral engineering students earned second prize in a global competition for their work on sustainable aviation fuel research—sharing $150,000 from a $1 million prize pool. Their tests on fuel compatibility, thermal stress, and emissions may set a new standard for fuel testing in the aviation industry.  The Crimson White
  • Former adjunct instructor Candice Hale sued University President Peter Mohler, Barefield College Dean Joseph Paul Messina, Executive Vice President James Dalton, and Department Chair Utz McKnight after she said her Facebook posts following Charlie Kirk’s death led to her termination—her suit claims her First Amendment rights were violated and seeks her reinstatement along with compensatory and punitive damages.  The Crimson White

  • Data from Zumper shows that Tuscaloosa apartment rents have increased 11% since last September — median listings rose from $1,450 to $1,611 while one-bedroom and two-bedroom rents increased 10% and 11% respectively.  The Tuscaloosa News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Guard Latrell Wrightsell Jr. returned on Sunday after nearly a full year recovering from a ruptured Achilles in Alabama's 96 to 71 win against Furman—he scored 12 points in 15 minutes without turnovers and coach Nate Oats praised his improved defense as he takes on a larger leadership role in his sixth season.  The Tuscaloosa News
  • LSU fired coach Brian Kelly after a 49-25 loss to Texas A&M and running backs coach Frank Wilson assumed the role as the team dropped from the AP rankings. The Tigers now face an uncertain bye-week as Alabama will play on November 8th—further details are pending.  Alabama Public Radio
  • Alabama football looked beatable in a 29—22 comeback win over South Carolina on Saturday but showed weaknesses that may affect upcoming SEC games. The team overcame early struggles with a key touchdown drive and forced fumble as Coach Kalen DeBoer’s squad now works to improve its rushing attack ahead of matchups with LSU, Oklahoma and Auburn.  The Tuscaloosa News
  • After a win on Saturday, Alabama remained in the top 4 in the AP rankings while Vanderbilt reached its highest ranking since 1937+ Ole Miss moved up after a road win and LSU fell out after a loss at Baton Rouge, with two teams tied for 10th and nine SEC teams in the Top 25.  WBRC
