- ➤ On Oct. 22, nearly 70 women attended the 7th Annual Purple Purse Luncheon and Conference at Tuscaloosa River Market to learn about financial independence, wellness, and domestic violence prevention. Sponsored by University Medical Center, Alabama One Credit Union, and The Coley Agency (which led panels and artistic performances), the event raised proceeds for Habitat for Humanity and Turning Point Women’s Center. - ➤ The City of Tuscaloosa will unveil four statues honoring local athletes on Nov. 5 at 9 a.m. at the Benjamin Barnes YMCA— the statues honor Freddy Wilson, Larry Sanders, Joe Hood and Robert VanHorn, all of whom died in the Marshall University plane crash in 1970, and light refreshments will be served. - ➤ The University of Alabama reached a key milestone when its new Smith Family Center for Performing Arts hit its highest point. The 130,088-square-foot center will house the Department of Theatre and Dance and include three theaters (350, 450, and 250 seats) and will finish by November. ABC 33/40
- ➤ University of Alabama police surprised student Raymond Woods with a new bike after they noticed his rented bike was damaged and lacked lights while he delivered food. Officer Doug Best worked with Dr. Hunter Christian to secure a bike, lock, and rack that will support Woods for his upcoming semester. ABC 33/40

- ➤ Former Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt is trying to join Jacksonville State as an analyst pending NCAA approval — a letter from the school on June 24 came as he sues the NCAA over a six‑year show‑cause penalty for recruiting violations at Tennessee.
