- ➤ The City of Tuscaloosa will host an unveiling ceremony for new statues honoring the Marshall Four—Freddy Wilson, Larry Sanders, Joe Hood, and Robert VanHorn—at the Benjamin Barnes YMCA on November 5 at 9 a.m. The statues, crafted by renowned artist Caleb O’Connor, honor the Tuscaloosa natives who broke barriers as early Black football athletes at Marshall University and lost their lives in a 1970 plane crash. - ➤ Tammy West of Glow Floral Event Design in Tuscaloosa has been selected to join the White House Christmas decorating volunteer team, and she will work on displays in Washington from November 23 through December 1. - ➤ More than 750,000 Alabama SNAP recipients have not gotten any official notice about whether their benefits will change in November if the shutdown goes on—state officials, including Governor Ivey and the Department of Human Resources, have not answered reporters' questions.
