  • A Tuscaloosa florist was selected to help decorate The White House for Christmas after she answered a call for volunteers on Instagram. Tammy West—owner of Glow Floral Event Design—will work with other designers during the week of Nov. 23 and join the White House Christmas party afterward.  WBRC
  • The Community Food Bank of Central Alabama is preparing as the government shutdown stalled SNAP and WIC benefits and reduced USDA food supplies—risking a loss of 3 million pounds of food that could feed 2.5 million meals. CEO Nicole Williams said the bank will hold two distribution events next week for selected groups to support neighbors in need.  ABC 33/40
  • Kitty Kat Haven & Rescue is hosting Katztoberfest 2025 to support rescued cats in our community — organizers will share event details soon.  WBRC

  • A Career Minds study named Mercedes-Benz International as Alabama’s top company for career advancement, finding that its focus on employee training + internal promotions has helped workers progress. The survey of 3,002 employees in September showed that the company’s Tuscaloosa County plant, operating since 1995, created many job opportunities.  The Tuscaloosa News

  • A Tuscaloosa florist will decorate the White House—bringing a local favorite into a nationally recognized project.  WBRC
  • Former University of Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron announced Wednesday his candidacy for lieutenant governor and said his football experience — including national championships and NFL play — inspires his push for conservative values and outsider leadership. He claims political insiders have had their chance and vows to work with Governor Tommy Tuberville to protect the state's cultural values.  ABC 33/40

HEALTH NEWS

  • Medicare enrollment is now open and the Area Agency on Aging of West Alabama is offering free counseling for residents in Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Pickens, and Tuscaloosa counties — the counselors provide impartial guidance through the SHIP program and enrollment will continue through Dec. 7.  ABC 33/40

SPORTS NEWS

  • Alabama football updated its injury report ahead of the game against South Carolina, with freshman Lotzeir Brooks listed as doubtful and several key players marked as questionable or out. The team will take the field tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. on ABC.  The Tuscaloosa News
  • The SEC suspended longtime referee Ken Williamson for the rest of the football season after his crew was heavily criticized for their calls during the Auburn-Georgia game on Oct. 11—when a disputed fumble and a timeout decision sparked controversy among team officials.  WBRC
  • Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson was added to the Manning Award Watch List after a strong start in a season where his team held a 6-1 record over seven games.
