  • The Hank Poore Foundation will host its annual Ale on Wheels fundraiser this Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Buddy Powell Pavilion in north Tuscaloosa to support adaptive athletics—featuring live music, food trucks, and a special brew from Black Warrior Brewing for the event’s fifth anniversary.  Tuscaloosa Thread
  • The Junior League of Tuscaloosa will host the 2026 Northport Bunny Trail in Historic Downtown Northport from Saturday, February 28 to sunset Sunday, April 5—featuring decorated eggs by local sponsors, free family events, and live music.   • Southeastern Grocers announced it will close several Winn-Dixie stores in Alabama along with others in Georgia, Mississippi and Louisiana by the end of the year as part of a plan to transition ownership of locations outside Florida — 20 Alabama stores are expected to be affected while some South Georgia stores will remain open for remodels.  CBS 42
  • Today, Honda will unveil its new safety tech at its Alabama Auto Plant in Lincoln with a roundtable featuring local and national safety leaders. The event includes demos of Honda Sensing 360, child car seat safety and advanced frontal airbags—aimed at reducing nearly 1,000 annual road deaths in Alabama.  ABC 33/40

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Alabama's K-12 enrollment dropped from over 720,000 in 2025 to about 714,358 in 2026, leaving 5,823 students unaccounted for. State School Superintendent Dr. Eric Mackey explained that clerical errors and transfers under the state's Choose Act may account for part of the gap—over 2,000 students remain unaccounted for.  ABC 33/40

  • Three Tuscaloosa icons—D. Bradley Cork, Walter Gary Nichols, and Sarah Patterson—had their names added to the Tuscaloosa County Civic Hall of Fame at Government Plaza downtown on Tuesday.   • University of Alabama is hosting the Moving Forward Parkinson's conference to share updates on Parkinson's research and care options—an event that aims to support those affected by the disease.  WBRC

  • Coach Kalen DeBoer said the team has not shown its best game yet and safety Keon Sabb agreed that a clean game from both offense and defense is needed to cut mistakes in the redzone.   • The Alabama Sports Writers Association released its high school football rankings ahead of Week 9. Central-Phenix City leads Class 7A + Clay-Chalkville tops Class 6A + Williamson holds first in Class 5A as many top teams remain undefeated.  The Tuscaloosa News
  • Coaches nationwide ranked Alabama basketball at No. 16 in the preseason Coaches Poll—placing them fourth among SEC teams—and the Tide will play an exhibition game at Furman on October 26th before opening the regular season at Coleman Coliseum on November 3rd.  The Tuscaloosa News
  • South Carolina coach Shane Beamer—who once tried recruiting Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson—spoke on October 22nd about his early talks with Simpson and praised the QB’s strong throws this season.
