COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Tuscaloosa Alumni Chapter and the University of Alabama Eta Chi Chapter of the Kappa Alpha Psi will host a community blood drive on November 3 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Greek Assembly Hall on Campus E Dr + they are partnering with the American Red Cross to help collect donations and save lives.  Tuscaloosa Thread

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 2025 Homecoming Queen candidates were announced on Sunday—each running on a different philanthropic platform, with candidates including Sydney Blackhurst, Morgan Grzybowski, Carrington Mills, Rachel Rybicki and Crawford West. Campaign preparation ends Nov. 1, campaign week begins Nov. 2, and voting runs from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Nov. 11 with the winner revealed at the pep rally and bonfire on Nov. 14.  The Crimson White

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Homeschooling is rising in Alabama as the state now ranks among the top ten with 5.5% of students learning at home, while public school enrollment dropped by nearly 5,823 students for the upcoming 2025–26 school year. The state board explained that the CHOOSE Act (offering up to $2,000 to help cover costs) encourages families to choose home education amid concerns over safety and curriculum quality.  The Tuscaloosa News

  • The Area Agency on Aging of West Alabama is offering free Medicare enrollment counseling to help local residents choose the best health plan during the enrollment period from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7.   • After Alabama beat Tennessee 37-20 last Saturday, defenders Zabien Brown and Yhonzae Pierre earned national honors.   • Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer trusts offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb because his detailed game plans have led to four touchdown first drives in seven games.
