EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Tuscaloosa County Board will meet Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 5:30 p.m. to discuss the Midland Institute CEO Program with Tuscaloosa City Schools and partners—Innovate Alabama, Tuscaloosa Education Foundation, and the Chamber of Commerce—planned to build entrepreneurial skills for the 2025-2026 school year. The board will also review financial reports and consider changes to salary schedules, the LEA Consolidated Plan and mental health services contracts.  ABC 33/40

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is asking families to help teens drive safely during National Teen Driver Safety Week from Oct. 19—25 after 25,047 teen crashes in 2024 led to 95 deaths. The agency is working with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to remind parents to set clear rules such as no cell phone use and obeying speed limits.  ABC 33/40

SPORTS NEWS

  • Alabama secured a 37—20 win over Tennessee as Ty Simpson threw two touchdown passes and led a crucial 99—yard drive that sealed the game; the Crimson Tide improved to 6—1 and will travel next week to face South Carolina in Columbia.  Tuscaloosa Thread
  • Hillcrest lost to Prattville 38 to 31 in overtime — a 20 yard rushing touchdown ended the game — and now holds a 5 to 4 record with nearly no chance for the playoffs.  Tide 100.9
  • On ESPN's College GameDay, Nick Saban was asked about a $50 million Penn State coaching job but did not reply as his wife said he was happy leading Alabama—she noted he could win an eighth national championship if he returned, and Saban later said 'Mrs. Always Right has spoken' after his team played Tennessee at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.  The Tuscaloosa News
  • Less than 90 minutes from kickoff at Bryant-Denny Stadium, the Alabama Crimson Tide report says running back Jam Miller—who has logged 267 yards this season—will play while five players, including LB Jah-Marien Latham and DL Jeremiah Beaman with season-ending injuries, are ruled out; WR Jaylen Mbakwe and TE Danny Lewis Jr. are set as game-time decisions ahead of the 6:30 p.m. clash against the Tennessee Volunteers.  Tide 100.9
