Professional paddlers, Alabama legislators, and volunteers gathered at Weiss Lake to begin the 2025 Great Alabama 650 race on Oct.

4 at 10 a.m.—a 650-mile endurance event hosted by Jakes on the Lake and the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce. Racers must reach the first checkpoint at Coosa River Adventures in Downtown Wetumpka by Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. to continue in solo and tandem team divisions.
