  • Moundville Archaeological Park will host its 37th annual Native American Festival from Oct. 9 to Oct. 11 to celebrate Native American cultures and histories.   • Due to severe drought conditions affecting over 95% of Alabama, the Alabama Forestry Commission issued a statewide fire danger advisory that urges residents to avoid outdoor burning until rainfall alleviates the dry weather—records from September show 220 wildfires covering 2,405 acres and forecasts predict continued dry conditions through December.  The Tuscaloosa News

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new law regulating pharmacy benefit managers means Tuscaloosa residents might pay an extra $10 for prescriptions as PBMs must cover drug acquisition costs plus a $10.64 dispensing fee—Blue Cross and Blue Shield said customers will pay the lower amount between the fee-enhanced cost and their copay while Sen. Andrew Jones stressed that the fee cannot be passed on to consumers. Pharmacist Anna Noojin noted that the law offers hope to local pharmacies under pressure from reduced business.  CBS 42

  • Alabama beat Georgia 24-21 last weekend to end the Bulldogs' 33-game win streak and earn 10.4 million TV viewers on ABC—showing the strength of SEC football. The Crimson Tide will face 16th-ranked Vanderbilt on Saturday, October 4 at 2:30 p.m. CT.  Tuscaloosa Thread
