- ➤ The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office trains nearly 30 deputies as paramedics so they can quickly respond to emergency medical calls — they recently practiced low angle rescue drills to secure patients and cut ambulance wait times to 15 minutes in a county spanning 1,390 square miles. WBRC
