- ➤ On September 17, the Tuscaloosa County Commission approved a resolution supporting the Simplified Sellers Use Tax as it remains unchanged despite a lawsuit by the City of Tuscaloosa and Tuscaloosa City Schools that claims the tax diverts local revenue. The decision aligns with advice from the Association of County Commissions of Alabama and mirrors moves by Walker and Etowah counties — officials agreed no major changes should be made to the current system. - ➤ AquaStar (USA) Corp has recalled 85,184 bags of shrimp sold at Kroger stores in Alabama due to potential cesium-137 contamination — consumers who purchased the shrimp from June 12 to September 17 should return or discard the product for a refund. ABC 33/40
- ➤ The FDA is recalling over 85,000 bags of shrimp from Kroger stores due to possible contamination with Cs-137—a radioactive substance that can cause burns and increase cancer risk. The recall covers shrimp sold from June 12 to September 17 at multiple Kroger brands in 31 states, including local stores in Alabama, and the agency is working with Customs to block further shipments.
