  • Charlie Sheen visited Tuscaloosa after a deadly tornado on April 27 to meet with mayor Walt Maddox and survivors, and he donated $25,000 to relief efforts; his trip is featured in a new two-part Netflix documentary (aka Charlie Sheen).  CBS 42

  • Tuscaloosa Oktoberfest will take place this Saturday at Government Plaza starting at 10 a.m. and offers free admission, live German music, authentic food, and family-friendly games—VIP tickets for $75 provide access to an exclusive tent, special drink options, and air-cooled bathrooms.  Tuscaloosa Thread

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Monday, the University of Alabama announced it enrolled over 42,000 students for the fall term and added 362 National Merit Scholars—a nearly 4 percent increase from last fall. The school welcomed students from all 67 counties, 50 states, the District of Columbia, and 99 countries to support its focus on developing future leaders.  Tuscaloosa Thread

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city of Tuscaloosa has announced two extra openings on its zoning board of adjustments for supernumerary members, with terms ending Sept 30, 2026 and Sept 30, 2028. Applicants must live locally and be ready for monthly 5 p.m. meetings on the fourth Monday—candidates with zoning ordinance experience are preferred and the city council will review applications until 5 p.m. Sept 23.  CBS 42
  • The City of Tuscaloosa is seeking candidates for two supernumerary positions on its Zoning Board of Adjustments with terms ending September 30, 2026 and September 30, 2028. Applicants who are local residents must submit their applications by 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 23rd and attend monthly public meetings on the board’s fourth Monday at 5:00 p.m.—positions that fill in when regular members are not available.  Tuscaloosa Thread

  • Alabama basketball will host 7-foot twins Adonis and Darius Ratliff—sons of former NBA All-Star Theo—for their first official visit as the Tide seeks top 2026 prospects.
