CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities identified the victim in a fatal drive-by shooting in Tuscaloosa—police continue to search for the suspect.  WBRC
  • On August 30, 2025, Tuscaloosa police arrested 19-year-old Deangelo Rancher after a shooting on 18th Avenue injured a woman and sparked a violent argument between groups—he is charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault, shooting into an occupied vehicle, and attempted first-degree assault.  ABC 33/40

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Ivey urged families to prepare for disasters during National Preparedness Month by updating emergency plans and assembling go-kits. Earlier this summer she inaugurated a renovated State Emergency Operations Center—upgraded with new technology—to ensure a swift response in emergencies.  ABC 33/40

HEALTH NEWS

  • Whitni Molden, Director of Development for the American Heart Association, said the group is planning a West Alabama Heart Walk on Saturday, March 7 at Government Plaza to raise funds for heart research and teach CPR.   • Alabama's Crimson Tide lost 31 to 17 to Florida State and fell from 8th to 21st in the AP Poll. They will try to bounce back as they host Louisiana-Monroe at Bryant-Denny Stadium this Saturday (6:45 p.m.) on ESPN.  Tuscaloosa Thread

  • Alabama lost to Florida State 31—17 last Saturday, but senior wide receiver Germie Bernard caught eight passes for 146 yards and was praised as the gold standard by offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb.
