- ➤ A 13-year-old student from West Blocton Middle School was fatally shot in the 200 block of Hickory Street in West Blocton on Thursday at 6:30 a.m., and state agents from ALEA led the investigation with findings to be reviewed by the Bibb County District Attorney’s Office—school counselors helped support students dealing with the loss. - ➤ Patrick Braxton, Newbern’s first Black mayor, won Tuesday’s election with 66 votes to 26, a win that marks the town’s first democratic vote in over six decades after he was locked out of office; he now leads a local government in a community where Black residents outnumber white residents 2—1.
