ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A pedestrian was hit and killed on I-59 North at the Messer Airport exit—there is no further detail on what led to the crash.  WBRC
  • University of West Alabama mourned freshman defensive lineman EJ Jones after he was killed in a head-on collision in Baldwin County over the weekend—counseling services are now available for his teammates.  WBRC

CRIME NEWS

  • Defense attorneys withdrew on Monday from representing Luther Bernard Watkins, who fatally shot a Tuscaloosa police officer six years ago, which delayed his trial set for September 2nd as the state works to appoint new counsel and give additional time for preparation.  Tuscaloosa Thread

EDUCATION NEWS

  • This fall, the University of Alabama will launch Crimson Park, a free mobile app that uses live data to show available parking spots on campus and sends alerts if a vehicle is in the wrong zone—faculty, staff and students will also use Bama Cash for deck parking and a shuttle service to the airport will be offered during breaks.  The University of Alabama

  • Northport voters ousted two incumbents and elected Dale Phillips as their new mayor in a landslide win from Tuesday night's municipal election results. Phillips said he will begin working tomorrow with his council team to rebuild the city.  CBS 42
