- ➤ On August 12, Tuscaloosa and Tuscaloosa City Schools sued Alabama Department of Revenue commissioner Vernon Barnett over the Simplified Sellers Use Tax Program meant for companies without a physical presence in the state. - ➤ Last week, the City of Tuscaloosa held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Linton Barbershop Plaza honoring civil rights leader Rev. Thomas Linton — his barbershop once sheltered Autherine Lucy during racial unrest, and key officials including Mayor Walt Maddox, Councilor Joe Eatmon, and Tim Lewis spoke about the historic site.
