  • New police data shows that crimes in Tuscaloosa fell from July 2024 to July 2025—homicides dropped 38 percent and robberies and carjackings declined 32 percent—after Chief Blankley credited more officer detailing, cyber checks and mental health outreach with reducing crime.  ABC 33/40
  • At 1:13 a.m. early today, a pedestrian was found dead on MLK Jr. Blvd near Short 16th Street from a suspected hit-and-run—police are investigating and urging witnesses to report tips.  ABC 33/40

  • On July 26, 2025, Dr. John Friel from the Alabama Museum of Natural History found a rare duck-billed dinosaur tooth in a Greene County creek — it comes from the late Cretaceous Period about 84 million years ago.  CBS 42

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Ivey announced Monday morning that Tuscaloosa's Munny Sokol Park will receive $50,000 in federal funds to upgrade its lights and parking area—Tuscaloosa County Park and Recreation Authority will match the funds for the project.
