  • KFC has launched Kentucky Fried Comeback and is offering a free bucket of chicken when customers spend $15 online through its app or website—this deal will run until Aug 24th.  The Tuscaloosa News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tuscaloosa City Council approved a liquor license Tuesday for Egan’s Irish Pub at the longtime site of the historic Egan’s Bar that locals favored from 1979 until it closed in 2021. Co-owner Nick Chichester said the new Irish pub will honor the old venue’s spirit by offering a non-smoking interior plus outdoor patios for smoking guests and is expected to open soon.  CBS 42

  • In 2025, CNBC ranked Alabama as the third worst state for quality of life, scoring 92 out of 265 points due to weak workplace protections and limited legal inclusiveness. The report considers healthcare access, air quality and crime rates — factors that affect the overall economic climate.  The Tuscaloosa News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Aug. 25, hunters can buy licenses for the upcoming hunting season from the Alabama Department of Natural Resources at many local places or online. Prices range from $17.60 for nighttime swine and coyote hunts to $709.90 for a lifetime license—hunters must show a hunter education card, and residents under 16 and those over 65 are not required to get one.  The Tuscaloosa News

  • At ACC Media Days on Wednesday in Charlotte, Florida State quarterback Thomas Castellanos reaffirmed his previous remark that Alabama does not have Nick Saban to save them and that he does not expect them to stop him in the Seminoles’ season opener on August 30 in Tallahassee.
