CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities identified the victim in the East Lake Park shooting — the investigation is ongoing.  WBRC
  • A Tuscaloosa police patrol chased a speeding vehicle for traffic violations on Cousette Street at 7:00 p.m. on July 17 — the chase ended when the vehicle crashed near Tamko Building Products and the 31-year-old driver, Jaylen Reed from Aliceville, died.  ABC 33/40

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Alabama families in Tuscaloosa, Northport and other West Alabama communities can shop tax-free for school supplies during the back-to-school sales tax holiday, which begins one minute past midnight tonight and ends at midnight Sunday. Eligible items such as pencils, paper, computers and uniforms must meet set price limits — state guidelines govern the details.  Tuscaloosa Thread
  • Tuscaloosa is providing 10 roll-off dumpsters around campus from July 18 until August 29 to help University of Alabama students move in; residents must place all debris inside the dumpsters—recycling is offered for items like cardboard, plastics, and electronics.  The Tuscaloosa News
