- ➤ Tuesday night, the city council approved the plan to build a six-story Sports Illustrated resort with condos, retail spaces and other amenities. A representative said the $150 million project will start later this year or early next year — the decision came despite opposition from some community members. ABC 33/40
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of Alabama Capstone College of Nursing, its Office of Teaching Innovation and Digital Education, and DCH Health System have joined to create a new RN to BSN online program for DCH nurses to boost their skills. - ➤ Tuscaloosa high school students will have expanded access to free college courses this fall thanks to an expansion of the Elevate Dual Enrollment Scholarship—letting eligible students at The University of Alabama take one course each semester for a total of nine courses with tuition, fees, and textbooks paid. Last school year, students completed 1,021 dual enrollment courses—earning nearly 2,900 credit hours that helped pave the way for the new program. ABC 33/40
- ➤ Two UA students, Zachary Griffith and Jesse Park, were chosen for the NOAA Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship which gives up to $9,500 a year and a 10-week paid summer internship — they will also receive funds to share their research at national science meetings.
