  • Chip Ervin, a 46-year-old West Alabama man with local ties, was arrested in Florida on June 7 when U.S. Customs found about 3,000 hydrocodone pills in his luggage at Miami International Airport—he now faces trafficking charges and a $200,000 bond was set for his release.  Tuscaloosa Thread

  • The University of Alabama's new president Peter Mohler spoke on Monday, praising the school’s academic and athletic achievements during his first Q&A session after the Board voted to replace Stuart Bell.   • Governor Ivey announced special election dates to fill the Alabama House District 63 seat after Representative Cynthia Almond was sworn in as president of the Public Service Commission on Monday — the special primary is set for Tuesday, September 30 with a runoff on Tuesday, October 28 and the special general election will be held on Tuesday, January 13. Candidates with major parties must qualify by Monday, June 23 at 5:00 p.m. while independent candidates have until Tuesday, September 30 at 5:00 p.m. to apply — the district includes parts of Tuscaloosa County.  ABC 33/40
  • Mayor Woodfin and Miles College held a news conference on June 16th to explain a new violence reduction program — the plan aims to lower violence and keep our community safe.  WBRC
