- ➤ University of Alabama graduate David Majure, who owns six Ace Hardware stores in Tuscaloosa and Northport, was elected to the company’s board on May 13—his experience includes serving as president of Majure Retail Group and co-chair of the Alabama Ace Retailer Group. - ➤ On May 9th Gov. Kay Ivey signed House Bill 165 to make Juneteenth a permanent state holiday, so all state offices will keep June 19 closed—this law gives lasting recognition to Freedom Day across Alabama. In Tuscaloosa, the local NAACP will host the 2025 Juneteenth Living Legend Luncheon from 12 to 1:30 p.m. Alabama Public Radio
- ➤ On June 11, Tuscaloosa broke ground on a new $1.1 million police logistics facility at 3311 Reese Phifer Ave to house vehicles and equipment. Planned since the 2011 tornado, the building—covering 7,600 square feet and funded by the city—will improve emergency response times and let police work independently from Fire Rescue, with completion expected by year-end.
