- ➤ Yesterday, Tuscaloosa’s One Place hosted its annual Fathers In The Park day at Snow Hinton Park to give non-custodial parents a chance to bond with their children; the event featured activities such as pool play, water slides, fishing, art auctions, and inflatable games (captured in photos). - ➤ A security officer at William Donaldson Correctional Facility was arrested Thursday for allegedly promoting prison contraband after trying to avoid a shakedown and admitting to having marijuana—authorities recovered packages with about 230 grams of marijuana, 172 grams of methamphetamine and an unknown substance as they continue their investigation. - ➤ A community-based program called SAFER Together launched Friday in Birmingham to improve mental health for veterans by promoting secure firearms storage—this new initiative is part of a law signed by Gov. Kay Ivey in April that encourages Federal Firearms License agreements and has already seen local gun shop Redland Rifle join the effort. Two local mothers said the program might have saved their sons and now hope that similar measures will help others. WBRC
