  • Temporary Emergency Services is hosting its annual Fan Drive on Tuesday, June 2 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 1705 15th Street to collect fans and bottled water—helping local families beat the summer heat.  Tuscaloosa Thread

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local groups marked Bloody Tuesday's 62nd anniversary with a banquet at Beulah Baptist Church on May 29 and will host commemorative services on June 7 at First African Baptist Church (2 p.m.) and Beulah Baptist Church (3 p.m.), featuring historical speakers and fellowship.  The Tuscaloosa News

  • Legislation moving through Congress may ban the sale of Mercedes Benz vehicles — including those built at the Tuscaloosa plant — because of Chinese ownership ties, which could threaten up to 60,000 local jobs and a $1.5 billion annual economic boost if passed.  Alabama Public Radio

  • Alabama baseball coach Rob Vaughn continued his handwritten tradition with the Right Field Ragers at The Joe on May 29 — student Tyler Wilcox brought a cooler of Silver Bullets and a baseball with a message to honor the personal bond energizing the NCAA Tournament.  The Tuscaloosa News
  • Alabama State baseball played Alabama on Friday, May 29 at 6 p.m. CT at Sewell-Thomas Stadium in a Tuscaloosa Regional game; the Hornets, in their third NCAA Tournament appearance, sought their first win against the Crimson Tide after earning an automatic bid from the SWAC Championship.  The Tuscaloosa News
  • Alabama baseball (38-19) will face USC Upstate at 6 p.m. today in the Tuscaloosa Regional after a 21-3 victory over Alabama State last night.  The Tuscaloosa News
  • The Women’s College World Series began elimination games yesterday and winner’s bracket games are on today with Texas Tech playing Tennessee at 3 p.m. on ABC and Alabama facing Nebraska at 7 p.m. on ESPN; tickets for today’s sessions and future rounds remain available.  The Tuscaloosa News
