- ➤ City leaders reversed their plan to convert The Gateway into offices after public outcry and will keep it open to serve community needs; they are now working on creative options (like arts and entertainment uses) to boost community engagement. WBRC
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Freshman Myles Upchurch earned SEC Freshman of the Week after a start lasting 7.0 innings that helped Crimson Tide beat Ole Miss 6 to 2 last weekend. The team will begin SEC tournament play Thursday, May 21 in Hoover. Tide 100.9
- ➤ The AHSAA softball state championship tournament is underway at Choccolocco Park in Oxford as teams from four regionals compete for the Blue Map Trophy, with games starting Monday for classes 4A and 6A and finishing Friday with the class 3A championship. The Tuscaloosa News
- ➤ Alabama offensive lineman William Sanders is hosting a youth football camp at Brookwood High School on Saturday, June 6 from 9:00 a.m. to Noon for boys and girls (ages 8-12) as registration is now open. Tuscaloosa Thread
