  • CSPWAL will host its annual Community Action Day on Saturday, May 23 from 9 a.m. to Noon at the Benjamin Barnes YMCA to offer Tuscaloosa families health screenings, educational resources and support services (including housing assistance) in a family-friendly setting.  Tuscaloosa Thread
  • Tuscaloosa Angels' 4th Annual 'Mom Prom' is set for Saturday, May 30 at Bryant Conference Center starting at 6 p.m. (open to ladies 21 and older) with proceeds benefiting the local foster care community through fun, dancing, and connection.  Tuscaloosa Thread
  • Tuscaloosa welcomes a delegation from Sunyani-Techiman in Ghana as part of its 15-year Sister Cities Program this week. The group will visit schools, local businesses, and community leaders + share ideas on growth and cultural exchange.  WBRC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Holt High School awarded 97 diplomas to its Class of 2026 on May 12 at Coleman Coliseum, where graduates marched in procession, listened to valedictory addresses, and saluted the flag. Principal Daniel Dickens presented class awards, including the Jimmy Walker Award to Benson Colburn.  The Tuscaloosa News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Alabama football faces top SEC receivers in its upcoming season. The Crimson Tide will match up against talented players from Texas A&M, Florida State, Tennessee, and Mississippi State, with former local standout Ryan Coleman-Williams among the competition.  Tuscaloosa Thread
  • After earning a No.2 ranking in the USA Softball poll following its SEC tournament exit, Alabama softball will host the Tuscaloosa Regional (featuring USC Upstate, Belmont and SE Louisiana) at Rhoads Stadium starting Friday, May 15.  The Tuscaloosa News
  • Alabama football will play East Carolina at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 11 a.m. CT on ABC as part of an SEC tripleheader. The contest kicks off the season as one of three nonconference games scheduled for 2026.  The Tuscaloosa News
  • SEC commissioner Greg Sankey backed a college football playoff expansion to 16 teams (supported by detailed research) at the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame meeting on Monday and said further feedback from coaches will guide a decision later this year.  WBRC
