EDUCATION NEWS

  • Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa recently held its nursing graduation where 29 students completed their program with a nurse pinning ceremony that honored Florence Nightingale using a candle lighting. Several graduates said they are ready to continue at four-year schools or start work at local hospitals + college officials plan to expand the nursing program with renovations to train more students.  WBRC
  • President Stuart Bell oversaw his final commencement at the University of Alabama on May 3, awarding over 6,400 degrees & noting he presented about 100,000 degrees during his time at the Capstone.  The Tuscaloosa News

  • After celebrating the Persian New Year, doctoral student Alireza Doroudi was arrested by armed immigration officers at his Tuscaloosa apartment in March. He is held in a Louisiana detention facility and will face a deportation hearing next week—local Iranian students report rising fear amid a federal crackdown.  WBRC
