EDUCATION NEWS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Law enforcement officials at headquarters honored two fallen officers by posthumously promoting them to sergeant last Friday. The ceremony recognized Officer Trevor Phillips (known for his uplifting spirit) and Investigator Dornell Cousette, whose legacies continue to inspire the community.  ABC 33/40

SPORTS NEWS

  • The SEC Softball Tournament will run May 5-9 at John Cropp Stadium (Lexington, KY) with 13 teams competing, including Alabama which earned a double bye. Games will air on SEC Network and ESPN, with lower-seeded teams starting on Tuesday and top seeds playing on Thursday.  The Tuscaloosa News
  • The Tide swept Vanderbilt 8-5 in a series finale that marked their first sweep since 2009. Starter Myles Upchurch pitched 5.1 innings for the win while Alabama will travel on Tuesday to face in-state rival Troy.  Tuscaloosa Thread
  • On May 1, incoming Crimson Tide forward Jamarion Davis-Fleming confirmed his commitment with coach Nate Oats while dismissing false rumors about his transfer from Mississippi State; he will join the team for the 2026-27 season as three other transfers are expected to add strength to the squad.  The Tuscaloosa News
