- ➤ Tuscaloosa hosts its free Live at the Plaza concert series today at Government Plaza; two acts will play from 6 to 9 p.m. every Friday until June 26 with food trucks, free parking, and a kids' zone for families. The Tuscaloosa News
- ➤ More than 100 locals gathered at Greenwood Cemetery as actors portrayed historical figures from Tuscaloosa’s past during the Voices of the Past event (hosted by the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution) to mark the run up to America’s 250th birthday. - ➤ According to research from Whistleout, many Alabama households may be overspending on cellphone bills because major carriers charge up to $80 a month while cheaper MVNO options (which use the same networks) average about $44 a month, potentially saving households over $2,300 each year. - ➤ Archway Academy, a new preschool serving the Tuscaloosa area in Northport, offers specialized care for children ages 2½ to 5 with autism and other neurodivergent needs; director Dr. Shan Archibald announced the school will host a 'One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish Day' celebration. - ➤ Re-Moore Learning and Mind Changers has announced a Summer Enrichment Program for children ages 5–12 that will take place at McDonald Hughes Community Center starting June 1 and running through July 24. Parents can register May 1–8 for daily sessions from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuscaloosa Thread

- ➤ Drivers and pedestrians in downtown Tuscaloosa should expect road closures on Greensboro Avenue starting Monday, May 4 as the city launches a $4.3M streetscape project (Elevate Tuscaloosa) that will complete by the University of Alabama's first home football game. Traffic adjustments will affect access to local businesses during construction. ABC 33/40
- ➤ Overtime pay in Alabama requires eligible hourly workers to earn 1.5 times their rate for hours worked beyond 40 a week. A temporary tax exemption (Jan. 1, 2024 to June 20, 2025) removed state income tax on qualifying overtime wages, though federal taxes still applied. The Tuscaloosa News
