- ➤ The blood drive in honor of former Hillcrest student Cameron Prince was held at Hillcrest and sponsored by his foundation and the American Red Cross, with many staff and students giving blood. His mother Tammy Prince said the event shows the foundation’s focus on service—love, light and legacy as the family will make it an annual event that will also award scholarships to seniors in May. - ➤ Librarians reported low morale at the recent Alabama Library Association Conference as an anti-DEI education law led to scrutiny over sexually explicit content in library books—staff expressed concern over its impact and the pressure to conform to conservative views. - ➤ Governor Kay Ivey signed Senate Bill 252 — the Community Pharmacy Relief Act — into law to address low reimbursements from Pharmacy Benefit Managers that forced ten local pharmacies to close since the start of 2025. The bill passed unanimously in both the Senate and House and received strong backing from local pharmacists and the state pharmacy association. ABC 33/40
- ➤ On Monday, the IRS announced that Alabama residents qualify for an automatic extension of their tax filing deadline until May 1 due to recent tornadoes and flooding. Taxpayers with an IRS address in the disaster area will receive filing and penalty relief. The Tuscaloosa News
- ➤ Mayor Walt Maddox, District 7 Councilman Cassius Lanier and the city council cut the ribbon on Springbrook Park on Springbrook Circle, a project that cost $1.8 million. The park features a walking path, playground, pavilion — and nine security cameras. WBRC
