CRIME NEWS

  • Paul W. Bryant High School was placed on a secured perimeter and heightened alert after police and the FBI received a tip via a burner Instagram account about a potential school shooting threat Monday morning, and the school day continued as all students and staff were safe.  WBRC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Alabama RISE Center will host its annual golf fundraiser on April 24-25 and CHIP in for RISE on April 29 to support early intervention therapy for children in Tuscaloosa—four UA students were selected as Goldwater Scholars, raising the total to 69 and making UA the only SEC school with all its nominees chosen.   The University of Alabama

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, 39 officers graduated from the Tuscaloosa Law Enforcement Academy after a 14-week training course—six will join the Tuscaloosa Police Department while the rest work with 19 other agencies across Alabama.  WBRC

SPORTS NEWS

  • Offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb said that if Alabama played a game tomorrow, Ty Simpson would start because he has earned his spot with 50 pass attempts and three full seasons of experience—Mack and Russell are still being evaluated as the team prepares for its season opener on Aug. 30 against Florida State.  The Tuscaloosa News
  • At Alabama's A-Day game in front of Denny Chimes, Tyler Booker, Deontae Lawson, and Jalen Milroe declared for the NFL Draft while Malachi Moore stays with the Crimson Tide. Coach Kalen DeBoer praised the players during a practice session that replaced the spring game — the NFL Draft will run April 24-26 at Lambeau Field.  Alabama Public Radio
  • Former Alabama football assistant coach Bill Oliver passed away at 85. He played on the 1961 championship team and spent 33 years coaching under Bear Bryant—most notably building the famous 1992 defense that helped secure a national title.  The Tuscaloosa News
  • Alabama football defensive coordinator Kane Wommack said the team now has more depth in the backfield than last season as the Crimson Tide adds new and returning players. The roster features stars like Domani Jackson and promising freshmen, and this added strength will let coaches adjust packages—improving the defense.  The Tuscaloosa News
  • After strong play during A-Day practice on Saturday, Alabama reviewed its roster as head coach Kalen DeBoer prepared for his second season.
