CRIME NEWS

  • Skeletal remains found in a wooded area in Tuscaloosa County are believed to be those of Marcus Skelton — a 47-year-old man reported missing in December 2024 from his New Lexington home who was last seen in May 2024 and had medical issues, with authorities now testing the remains to confirm his identity.  The Tuscaloosa News

  • On Tuesday, the Tuscaloosa City Council proclaimed April as Child Abuse Prevention Month and approved rezoning requests and two alcoholic beverage applications while Mayor Walt Maddox urged residents to help keep children safe and received support pins from Lisa Maddox. The council set April 14 as Joseph Joey Pike Day to honor his work with Eagles’ Wings—while addressing a citizen's complaint about extra traffic from a new car wash on Veterans Memorial Parkway.  The Crimson White
  • Tuesday the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit ruled that Alabama’s anti-panhandling laws are unconstitutional and that begging is protected by the First Amendment (the decision was detailed in a 15-page brief). The ruling follows a 2023 district court decision that had barred enforcement of these laws.  AL.com
