- ➤ The U.S. Department of Labor reported that initial unemployment claims in Alabama dropped last week to 1,991 and overall claims declined to 227,000—a decrease of 5,000 from the previous week. Virginia saw a 68.8% surge while Missouri recorded a 43.5% drop. The Tuscaloosa News
