  • Habitat for Humanity of Tuscaloosa received a $100,000 donation from Publix Supermarket Charities on Jan. 29 to fund the construction of a new home that will empower a local family to achieve stability & self-reliance; Publix employees will also help build the home in late spring.  WBRC

  • Today, lawmakers meet at the statehouse to address a projected $380 million gap in the education trust fund that affects teacher health insurance, as part of week three of the legislative session.   • On Feb. 2, about 70 athletes from 13 county schools competed at Sipsey Valley Middle School in a Special Olympics event; winners now advance to the state competition (Pam Stanley, director of special education, confirmed the results).  WBRC

  • Former Alabama guard Keon Ellis was acquired by the Cleveland Cavaliers in a three-team trade finalized on Sunday (involving the Kings and Bulls); he will join a backcourt with Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland this season for $2.3 million.  Tuscaloosa Thread
  • Tigers coach Steven Pearl said he does not decide on center Charles Bediako's eligibility, noting a temporary restraining order lets him play under guidelines.
