HEALTH NEWS

  • Local animal services have set up warming stations to help pets cope with the winter cold with sites available across Tuscaloosa, and pet owners are encouraged to bring animals in if they show signs of cold stress (locations vary).  WBRC
  • A Kaiser Family Foundation study estimates 130,000 Alabamians will lose their Affordable Care Act coverage after premium tax subsidies ended (Dec. 31). Enrollment dropped by 800,000 compared to last year, leaving many to face higher premium costs.  Alabama Public Radio
  • Suzanna's Kitchen recalled over 13,000 lbs of ready-to-eat grilled chicken fillets due to potential listeria contamination; USDA announced the recall on Friday and the items were sent to food service centers in Alabama + other states.  Alabama Public Radio

  • Voting is open until noon Thursday, Jan. 22 for Tuscaloosa News Boys Athlete of the Week for Jan. 10-16.   • After the UFL draft, the Stallions are finalizing their team roster, with officials planning to announce more player selections soon (as training starts later this week in Tuscaloosa).  WBRC
  • Former Ole Miss offensive lineman Ethan Fields transferred to Alabama football yesterday. He played 86 snaps in three seasons and has two seasons of eligibility left (adding needed depth to the Crimson Tide line).  The Tuscaloosa News
  • The No. 18 Alabama Crimson Tide beat Oklahoma 83-81 on Saturday, Jan. 17 at Lloyd Noble Center (their first win there) in a close game where Sooners coach Porter Moser said his team lost key opportunities after leading by 11 points at halftime.  The Tuscaloosa News
  • Former Oregon defensive lineman Terrance Green committed to the Crimson Tide on Saturday, Jan. 17. The 6-foot-5, 330-pound transfer (recording 15 tackles last season) becomes Alabama’s 16th addition from the transfer portal.  Tuscaloosa Thread
