  • TES and partners WVUA 23 News and Townsquare Media will host its annual Heater Drive to collect new or gently used heaters, blankets, and socks for local families in need this winter. Donations are accepted on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at TES (1705 15th St) from 5 to 5:45 p.m.  Tuscaloosa Thread

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Alabama archeology students will study Civil War-era artifacts uncovered at Washington Hall on campus after a December dig, and faculty plus students will analyze their findings over the coming weeks.  Alabama Public Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials identified 15 counties with elevated radon potential and noted that while the Department of Public Health usually offers free test kits, supplies are now low (homeowners can order kits from National Radon Program Services).  The Tuscaloosa News

  • Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson filed NFL draft paperwork on Tuesday, confirming he will enter the draft. He shared a photo on Instagram (expressing gratitude for his four years with the Crimson Tide) and remains ranked No. 3 on ESPN's Big Board for 2026.  Tuscaloosa Thread
  • Alabama bandit defensive lineman Jordan Renaud entered the transfer portal, joining teammates LT Overton and Keon Keeley as the portal remains open through Jan. 16 + the team plans to fill his role for the upcoming season.  Tuscaloosa Thread

  • The Alabama women's basketball team earned its first SEC road win on Monday with a 74-63 victory over the Missouri Tigers, spurred by Karly Weathers’ 23 points; they will next play Auburn on Thursday, Jan. 15 at 8 p.m. CT.  Tuscaloosa Thread
  • Alabama football is building its 2026 roster with a busy transfer portal that saw many players switch schools before the window closes on Friday, Jan. 16. Several key transfers, including wide receivers and offensive linemen, will reshape the team (according to reports).  The Tuscaloosa News
